A recent medical study has revealed that playing bingo can prevent disabilities in later life and possibly prolong a persons’ life.

Research has revealed that a better social life and regular participation in a game of bingo can significantly reduce chances of illness or disability by almost two thirds.  The game and social interaction keeps the mind alert and can improve motor functioning as people age.

Dr. Aron S. Buchman conducted the study at the Rush Medical Centre in Chicago, and told the Daily Telegraph newspaper (UK)…

‘Decline in motor function is a familiar consequence of ageing.  These data raise the possibility that social engagement can slow motor function decline and possibly delay adverse health outcomes from such decline.  Further work is needed to ensure that this is a casual relationship.’

96 elderly patients participated in Dr. Aron’s study over a timescale of five years.  The results have been recorded in the ‘Internal Medicine Journal’ and have confirmed that the patients who remained active through bingo and other social activities reduced the risk of disability by 65 per cent and death by 40 per cent.

The study also discovered that the elderly patients who already suffered medical conditions improved also.
