MP for Taunton, Jeremy Browne has declared his support for the fight against high bingo taxes.

The Taunton MP is an active supporter of the bingo community and is heavily involved in the fight against rising bingo taxes. "Bingo is taxed at 22% but all other types of gambling are taxed at just 15%," says Jeremy Browne. “Betting on football or horse-racing is taxed at the lower rate. Even on-line bingo is taxed at just 15%. The only gamblers who are being clobbered with the higher 22% rate are the people who enjoy visiting their local bingo club.”

The Taunton Mecca Bingo is a highly popular venue for the local community and provides entertainment to nearly 2000 visitors every week. “In the last year across Britain, 31 bingo clubs have closed and just two have opened,” stated the Taunton MP. “It is getting harder for bingo operators to remain in business, even when they have plenty of customers, because they are being taxed at a higher rate than other types of gambling.”

Jeremy Browne has already voiced his concerns with the House of Commons and has promised to continue the campaign until bingo taxes are equal to other gambling taxes.
